Will Petplan still cover my pet for travel to the EU?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Petplan will still provide the same cover for trips to the EU with your pet. Any travel will need to be in line with the requirements of the UK government and the EU Pet Travel Scheme (PETS). It’s important that you check the UK government website www.gov.uk or contact your vet at least four months before travelling to get the latest advice. For full details of your pet’s cover, please check your Terms and Conditions.

Our caring for pets goes beyond providing dog insurance, cat insurance and rabbit insurance. As 'the pet people' we are passionate about animal welfare and the principle of responsible pet ownership. We support many charities and have set up Petplan Charitable Trust, which has so far raised over £8 million towards a better, healthier world for animals.

Will you continue to renew my pet's insurance when he/she becomes old?

For our Covered For Life ® cat insurance products you must start the insurance before your cats 10th birthday. On the Covered For Life ® dog insurance products, cover must start from 6 weeks of age and before their 8th birthday and if your dog is a select breed the insurance must begin before their 5th birthday. For our rabbit insurance policy, which is also a Covered For Life ® product, insurance must begin before their 5th birthday. If you haven't had pet insurance previously and your pet has passed the upper age limit you'll be glad to hear that there is no upper age limit on our Petplan Essential policy (N.B. This product is only available for cats and dogs). While the age of your pet does affect the premium you pay we will strive to ensure premiums for older pets are not unfair or unrealistic.

You no longer need to opt in to view your documents online. Simply register for My Petplan to view and download your documents.

Please note My Petplan is a new service and you will need to register before you can log in for the first time.

What cat insurance policies do you offer?

Our two types of cat insurance offer either ongoing help with vet bills or short-term help with vet bills.

Our Covered For Life® plan provides ongoing help with vet bills. You can continue to claim year after year for the same condition up to your chosen yearly limit providing you renew with no break in cover.

Our Essential plan provides short term help with vet bills. You can claim for 12 months treatment up to £3,000 for each illness/injury. Once you reach either of these limits the condition will no longer be covered.

On your Essential cover, when does the 12 month claiming period start?

Our Essential policy covers each illness or injury for up to 12 months from when your pet starts treatment.

For example, if you had 12 month cover for your pet starting in August, and he/ she then developed diabetes, starting treatment in February, you can claim for their treatment for this condition until February of the following year (12 months) providing you renew your policy and continue paying your premiums. After this time, all cover for diabetes will stop and this condition will be excluded from your policy.
