What should I do if my details are incorrect on my policy?

If any of the information shown in your documents or in your My Petplan account are incorrect or your circumstances have changed, please let us know as soon as possible.

If you have moved house, changed your email address or want to change your contact number please log in to your My Petplan account to update your details.

Does Petplan offer travel insurance for pets?

Yes we do, this benefit is available as standard on all of our Covered For Life ® polices, however this does not include Legal Liability Cover abroad. For further information please refer to your Terms and Conditions or alternatively you can call our customer service centre on 0345 071 8000.

How are Petplan premiums calculated?

Petplan has been providing dog, cat and rabbit insurance for over 45 years, and we use this experience to help us price policies accurately for each individual pet. We design our policies to pay out, so we price policies to enable us to cover the cost of the veterinary care your pet may need. The size, breed, location and age of your pet are some of the factors we’ll take into consideration when calculating your premiums.

Petplan's pricing approach is different to most other pet insurance and one of the reasons why over 90% of customers renew each year. Our Claims Pricing Guarantee means that you will never pay more for claiming. Your price will increase every year as your pet gets older and the cost of treating pets increases, but with Petplan you won’t pay more for claiming. In fact if your pet needs treatment we want you to claim.

Where can I find my Insurance Policy Information Document (IPID)?

Your Insurance Product Information Document (IPID) is a summary of your cover and can be found within your Policy Documents. Please click on Policy Documents to view and download your documents including your Insurance Policy Information Document (IPID).

Question 6

Will Petplan still cover my pet for travel to the EU?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Petplan will still provide the same cover for trips to the EU with your pet. Any travel will need to be in line with the requirements of the UK government and the EU Pet Travel Scheme (PETS). It’s important that you check the UK government website www.gov.uk or contact your vet at least four months before travelling to get the latest advice. For full details of your pet’s cover, please check your Terms and Conditions.

Will you continue to renew my pet's insurance when they get old?

Yes, we will continue to renew your pet’s policy as they age, provided you continue to renew your policy each year with no break in cover and your pet was insured before the required age brackets. For our Covered For Life® cat insurance policy you must start the insurance before your cat’s 10th birthday. On the Covered For Life® dog insurance policy, cover must start from 6 weeks of age and before their 8th birthday. For select dog breeds, cover must start before their 5th birthday. Please contact our friendly Customer Care team on 0345 077 1934 if you have further questions about insuring your dog. On our rabbit insurance policy, cover must begin before their 5th birthday. If you haven't had pet insurance previously and your pet has passed the upper age limit you'll be glad to hear that there is no upper age limit on our Petplan Essential policy for dogs and cats. While the age of your pet does affect the premium you pay we will strive to ensure premiums for older pets are not unfair or unrealistic.

I can’t find the Vet Bills claim form on your website

You can either submit a claim to us electronically or ask your vet to submit an eClaim to us on your behalf. We do send paper claim forms to vet practices that cannot submit eClaims. If you still need a paper form you can download an editable PDF claim form. Once completed by both yourself and your vet, please send it along with your invoices to claims@petplan.co.uk.

What are the benefits of the Essential plan?

Our Essential plan provides short term help with vet bills. You can claim for 12 months treatment up to £3,000 for each illness/injury. Once you reach either of these limits the condition will no longer be covered.

We also provide a Covered For Life® plan which provides ongoing help with vet bills. You can continue to claim year after year for the same condition up to your chosen yearly limit providing you renew with no break in cover.

Our two types of dog insurance offer either ongoing help with vet bills or short-term help with vet bills.
